Some states don't require a state license exam (just a fee) New York State is one of these...!

Re: Foreign veterinary graduates

Yes it is! I have done some research into this as I kinda want to do the NAVLE. California is def one of the hardest state exams apparently. Some states dont require you to do a state exam (IIRC) there is a list of states on the NAVLE website saying what each state requires for entrance there.

Re: Foreign veterinary graduates
My other question: Is this whole process "easier" in particular states in the U.S.?
A friend of mine says rather that it's more difficult in some states than others! Or at least that was her experience...

Re: Foreign veterinary graduates

Unfortunately, even though i wish it was, it's is not my case in particular.
That's not true if you have graduated from a foreign institution that is AVMA accredited (for instance Edinburgh or the RVC). Then you only have to pass the NAVLE (North American Veterinary Licensing Exam) which costs about $600, graduate, sort out a state license (which may also involve an exam + a fee) and you are set!

If you have graduated in a European Union country you can register with the RCVS and be placed on the Register of Veterinary surgeons. There are also reciprocal arrangements with Australian, New Zealand, South African and some other Common Wealth States.

If you do not have a veterinary degree from one of these countries then you can sit the 'statutory MRCVS exam'. These exams are held one a year and are very thorough.

For more information consult the RCVS web site www.rcvs.org.uk
