E-bay beats anywhere hands down, like half the price for blades and prices for other equipment from autoclaves to computers you wouldn't believe.

Re: Dysfunctional clippers

[quote user="James Johnson"]

Why not try J.A.K Marketing, they will send a freepost jiffy bag upon request.

They sharpen blades and scissors.

From what I have seen they are one of the cheapest sharpening services on the market and they have a 24 hour turnaround!!!

Nice and easy as they are just given to the driver and brought back with your order. We tend to use Burtons though as they're a bit cheaper (I think)

When I was a student my foster practice used to use scissors followed by a disposable bic razor. Not ideal because it clogs up a lot and scratching the skin surface releases bacteria, but probably preferable to a repeat anaesthetic in an emergency!

Re: Dysfunctional clippers

[quote user="Clive Ansell"]

Buy - through your wholesaler - may be the easiest and quickest if you're locuming and can't write cheques/set up accounts.

Service - have used ritchey and burtons. They'll also sharpen your surgical scissors too!

Re: Dysfunctional clippers

We have changed from No40 clipper blades to No50 - finer job. Oster blades seem better than Wahl - most clippers seem similar except for the noise. Any wholesaler I think. Sharpening and service (and sales too I think): Shear Ease (01407 832800) are great; prepaid jiffy bags and one-day turnround.

I have much sympathy. In one of my past jobs, when we wanted to clip we had to borrow the practice's only clipper from the lady who did the grooming. Frequently this failed to cut because it was blunt. Once I was so frustrated I slammed the thing down and broke it. I'm not proud of that, but at least the practice then bought an extra pair of clippers for surgery.

Re: Dysfunctional clippers

We currently use mains Oster A5 with No. 40 blade and also Andis mains and rechargrable ( from Burtons when on offer!) with same blade. no real issues with either.
