I know it's always a possibility but I've had three dogs with this in 2 weeks which is a lot. when you consider I only do up to 10 visits a week. One of them was my own and she may have helped herself

Re: Diarrhoea after drontal?
Yes, but they don't like to do it and it's much easier for them to do a spot-on treatment at home four times a year then to bring a cat in for a vet to pill four times a year!
absolutely - but when the cat is presented to me I will stick a tablet down and then offer them profender to do at home. I have put profender on more as a demo for clients that haven't used the product before.

Re: Diarrhoea after drontal?
People like to see it
I prefer Milbemax chewy, or just the plain tabs if they won't eat the chewy ones, as they do have the advantages of a better dose range and smaller size.

Cats I would generally go for Profender or Milbemax if the client particularly wants a tablet, but my days of trying to appear a hero and getting a pill into a recalcitrant moggy are gone! Why bother when a spot on is ten times less stressful, (for the vet and the cat!)

People like to see it. I take pride in firing them down with no apparant effort.

Am I the only vet who thinks the Milbemax cat are too small and fiddly and prefer Drontal in cats? Even Drontal XL go down ok. I fire down with a Buster pill giver. Can't recall not getting one down!

Re: Diarrhoea after drontal?

Milbemax gets my vote as well. There aren't many cats I haven't managed to pill with the small milbemax tablets, but the ones where I have failed get profender.

Re: Diarrhoea after drontal?
For cats - Milbemax every time!
The spectrum of activity is better and there is no concern of overlap with Advocate which we are using almost exclusively now in dogs because of lungworm.

For cats - Milbemax every time! The torpedo shape is a godsend.

Re: Diarrhoea after drontal?

Another vote for milbemax here, I seem to see less GI upsets with it, much easier to give and I do prefer that it's vet only

Now I only use drontal for pets that haven't been seen in an age

Re: Diarrhoea after drontal?

Totally agree - milbemax wins hands down on ease of administration, palatability, support.

Bayer have been progressively moving their products to the pet shops. Bob Martins branded Droncit spot on, Bob Martins branded Advantage etc.

Occasionally we get a dog that either vomits or has mild diarrhoea after either product but it is very unusual.

How the heck does anyone get the drontal large cat 'bricks' into them without a fight?

Re: Diarrhoea after drontal?

Not had an issue with diarrhoea and Drontal, vomiting yes, but I use Milbemax because:

More convenient dosing ranges

More palatable and smaller tablet size ( important in cats)

Doesn't disintegrate into a powdery mush if you miss first time (even more important in cats)!

Doesn't induce vomiting

Better discount for me from Novartis than Bayer

Last but by no means least, client loyalty - isn't available from pets shops and high street pharmacies
