When asked the same question by a colleague after we'd walked up a hill and were contemplating the beautiful view from the top (lake district) I said I'd like to breed horses and paint - to which he replied....... how do you breed paint?!?? ......... I wish I was that sharp ....nearly fell off the hill laughing

Last week been asked to apply for a job as part time tutor at a local College to teach 3 different units to the 'animal care' level 3 students!!

I am sh***ing myself but after speaking to them, this is too good to not do! So I am going to apply. Watch this space!

I would love to read novels and convert them into scripts for films. That is totally random for me- I did not enjoy English at school or Drama or basically anything artsy. But that's what I'd want to do.

my 5 choices on leaving school were vet ,vet, vet, vet, forensic medicine.

dad always wanted me to be a dentist but i couldnt stand the idea of fishing around in disgusting mouths (unfortunately i now spend a lot of time doing just that only for a lot less money!!!)

have spent a lot of my spare time on the stage so actress/singer has been explored and put to bed.

now archeology ...... that seems interesting . wheres Tony Robinson?........................

Could you not combine it with being a vet? Just be sure your receptionist is good at making appointments.

hi guys

i would be interested to hears of peoples experiances of converting to medicine. 5 years ago i was considering going back to do phamacy but decided not to , my class went back at same time and did it and now has 4 shops , opened his first within weeks of qualifying . what was i thinking ?was offered the place but turned it down .

Similarly, I had no back up plan, although several have come to light since qualifying (but I love my job, boss!) Since moving to Cornwall though, I do like the idea of being a professional bum!

I always wanted to be a vet and never really had a back-up plan (despite my teachers telling me I wouldn't get in- it seems from this thread that there are a few teachers out there that were either very much into reverse psychology, or were just crap at their jobs!)

I had to apply for 6 courses on my uni application and my 4th and 5th were architecture... infuence of a boyfriend at the time, God knows what i was thinking.

I had a flirtation with music journalism in my 20's but that ended up firmly in the "hobby" basket (I did have a radio programme for 10 years and produced my own magazine for 23 issues though!)

Now I'm just trying to figure out what career options will allow me to pick up my son from school when he starts in 2 years... because I can't see GP vetting doing it. Ironic, really.

Strangely enough, I was a trainee cartographer for about a year before becoming a vet. That was back in the days it was all done on computers.

I wanted to be a cartographer, I've always been interested in maps and travel. Then I had a behind the scenes tour of the ordinance survey at Southhampton and discovered the vast majority of it was all computerised and it lost it's appeal a bit.

Then I couldn't think of anyhting else to do except veterinary so here I am!

Be interested to hear more details of your friends who have made/are making the leap to medicine. I think it attractive, but not sure re protocol, any credit for MRCVS, presume one would get at least a year off the course. Would appreciate any info you have or if perhaps some of your colleagues would email I would be interested to hear their thoughts.

After a week of less than ideal clients, I considered jacking it all in and becoming a hairdresser/beautician. I've always wanted to do that! I was then swiftly reminded by a colleague that you crap from people in whatever job you do! So my career change is on hold for the now... until the next time I get a load of mouth from someone for no reason

Back when I was 17, my reserve if I didn't get into vet. school was an offer from Leeds University to do............... wait for it.......................... Leather Science.
