I cannot see the French popping down to the local chemist with a prescription for their medicine.

I understand in Europe most wormer's for farm animals are POM equivalent and agricultural merchants do not supply. Again I have no knowledge - hopefully others have. I think we are the only country in the EU where vets train for 5 years to gain the right to prescribe prescription medicines yet others train for a week to become SQP's and can prescribe in their own right.

I think it is the VMD that seems to have decided it is a privilege to dispense but I am happy to write prescriptions and charge for my time. I refuse to work for nothing so even if the stupid idea of 'free' prescriptions returns I will not comply.

This sort of comment aimed against vets is typical VMD/Labour claptrap IMHO!!!!!!

Roll on the new government and let common sense prevail

Re: Help the new gov , get rid of the VMD

Dear Mr Edwards,

We have a right to prescribe and a privilege to dispense. The VMD have been instrumental in sustaining this dispensing anomaly vs the rest of Europe.

Any comments?

Practice inspections of small animal practices especially should be on a random or 'risk-assessed' basis thus saving lots of dosh. The idea that all practices need to be visited regularly is a nonsense.

We are a profession and a very ethical one at that. There are a few bad eggs but a three year inspection is unlikely to change that. Most of us would be able to get our practices to tick their boxes whilst covering up a multitude of sins. We just would not do it!!!

If I wanted to 'lose' medication in the system creating paperwork to explain it would be simple. I just don't want to lose medication I want to track it for the sake of my bank balance and this is nothing to do with the VMD.

They are now parasitic and should have their wings clipped and go back to their original functions. Now we have a government that should get on fixing Labours mistakes so we can go back to running our businesses.

Re: Help the new gov , get rid of the VMD

Good call!
