Just a little tweak for those of you that have an iPhone or an iPad.

If you open the browser, go to VetSurgeon, press the + sign and tap 'Add to Home Screen', it will now put a custom VetSurgeon icon on your home screen.

You will have to excuse the google translation but according to a Chinese web site, Foxconn are withdrawing from China back to Taiwan at the lost (to the Chinese) of 800,000 jobs. Foxconn Hon Hai Group, the parent company in Hong Kong and Taiwan yesterday, the shareholders will be held, are in Taiwan Chairman Terry Gou said the production line next will withdraw some of the mainland to Taiwan and studied to increase production lines in Vietnam and moved to India. Gou also pointed out that Foxconn has been suspended death benefits to all staff; and the mainland is ready to plant management staff quarters, the right of employees to the plant to take care of their local governments.

PS3, Wii, Dell & HP computers and a lot of Nokia phones as well as their own branded motherboards. It would surprise me if anyone on this forum doesn't own at least 1 Foxconn built part.

What that article didn't say but I read elsewhere (Techworld) is that the official suicide rate in China is 13.5 per 100,000 people which puts Foxconn below the national average. 10 in 300,000 over 6 months is about the national rate. I am sure they will all appreciate the payrise though!

Probably not very well - I see in the same article that Foxconn makes stuff for Sony, Dell, Nokia and Hewlett-Packard in addition to Apple.

Probably the same way, but where does one buy a UK or Europe made one where workers have better protection?. In fact, where does one buy a UK made anything; I bought a Dawes road bike 2 years ago - good old British make made in Taiwan (not a single British component on it), and RAB that used to be based in Sheffield making down filled mountaineering gear, sold out and now made in SE Asia mostly.

Yes. Syncing contacts in Outlook is done with the itunes programme. The way to keep emails themselves in sync is to set up a push (IMAP) emailbox on Google.

With standard (POP) mailboxes, emails are stored on the server until you collect them using whichever computer you happen to be using at the time. They are then (usually)deleted from the server, meaning you can't then collect them using another device later.

With IMAP, emails are instead sent to any and all devices you use to view emails simultaneously. The original is stored with Google. If you delete it using one computer, it deletes it on Google, which then updates your other devices with the deletion.

Both types (wi-fi and wi-fi +3g) come with Google Maps installed out of the box.

Wi-fi only model can locate you according to your proximity to known wi-fi hotspots (most likely in built-up areas). Wi-fi + 3g model has built in assisted GPS (from what I can gather, it uses mobile phone masts to give an initial approximate fix whilst locking onto the GPS signal).

Luckily I can justify it as a legitimate part of my business :)

But don't worry if you don't win one - I'm sure the prices will drop reasonably soon, there is competition entering the market later in the year.

No, it's not just a big iPhone. It's bigger than 'just a big iPhone.' I mean, you might say that BMW Touring estate is just a big beemer. And it is. They drive the same way, have more or less identical features, can take the same number of passengers, and park in the same sized slot. Just the estate allows you to carry a few extra bags.

The effect of the larger screen size on the iPad is far more significant than being able to carry a few extra bags. It means you can read books and magazines on an iPad (you can't on the phone). You can browse your photographs and show them to friends (yes, I know you can do that with the iPhone, but it isn't great passing it round for everyone to squint at, so I rarely do). You can genuinely use the iPad as an emailer (I'd use my iPhone for email in an emergency, but not otherwise). You can browse the web properly. Of course you can browse on an iPhone, but it's fiddle scrolling here and zooming there, so again something I tend to do only in an emergency.

Also, there's obviously a lot more computing power under the hood of the iPad which means it can run Apple's word processor, presentation and spreadsheet applications, which is beyond the capability of the iPhone, even if it were practical on such a small screen.

So yes, sure, a big iPhone in looks alone. A completely different proposition / experience in terms of what it can do.

It looks great, but I cannot justify the cost at the moment. I have a desktop, old laptop for working away. and a mobile that will access email when out - don't need the rest of it really, although the cat in the hat would be good.

Out of interest, would it be able to sync with Microsoft Outlook email client on my laptop/desktop?.

Does it have GPS or any mapping functions?

There is a USB cable! It's just that it is only USB at the desktop end of the cable. At the iPad end, it plus into a proprietary Apple socket (the same sort as the iPhone). That means you can plug the iPad into a USB port, but not plug anything USB into the iPad, if that makes sense.

So, to transfer images and music onto your iPad, you install itunes on your desktop/laptop, tell it where your music is located, plug in the iPad and sync.

Apparently, there is a cable available which allows you to plug a camera directly into the side of the iPad. I prefer to edit mine on a desktop and then sync the finished result.

My first thought on reading your review, was how it connected to the internet, was if 3G or wi-fi. But you answered at the end of your review.

If there's no USB cable, how do you get your photos and music on it?
