There's a letter from Polly Taylor, explaining why she was forced to resign from a quango. This is the sort of unethical interference we will have to put up with, if RCVS loses it's majority of elected veterinary surgeons

Re: Polly Taylor's letter

[quote user="Hannah Wynne Richards"]Have you read this week's VR?
Yes. You've gotta RESPECT her. Well done her.

Re: Polly Taylor's letter

Neither. You can barely divide the two main political parties (I am not sure the Nick Clegg effect will last to May 7th) on taxation, spending etc. Neither has shown any willingness to reduce the burden of red tape on small business, to simplify the tax code or reform the NHS spending (to allow clients a true idea of the costs of the NHS).

The RCVS will still pander to DEFRA, allow the VMD to impose extra rules / changed rules on an annual basis, just so the VMD can justify their continued existence. they will continue to increase retention fees above the rate of inflation and allow the profession to be attacked from outside. If we are being attacked by the Daily Mail, Panorama or anyone else, they should either investigate and clean up the profession or defend us throughtheir second guiding principle (To act as an impartial source of informed opinion on animal health and welfare issues and their interaction with human health) Inform the public that we are not all bad!

Government and organisations like the RCVS / VMD exist to regulate and they feel they must make changes all the time to justify their existance. It isn't possible to think that, actually, things are OK at the moment, let's not make any new laws / rules.

Whatever happens with these elections, we will all get hit with new ideas, new schemes, more expense and will get through the other side same as we always have. Maybe I just woke up in a cynical mood but maybe rather than policies, all that matters at the moment is personality?

Ian

Re: Polly Taylor's letter

This seems to be a good point for me to ask a question that I'm curious to know the answer to ...

Which do you (as in any of you) think has the greater impact on your daily lives: the choice of who regulates your profession, or your choice of government in the general elections?
