Given that this "database" could have been written in Access or MySQL by any reasonably intelligent sixth former, it is truly outrageous that "due to problems of data extraction" they could not even put the names and addresses of the premises on the invoice. Does that mean that they cannot find the address of a premises in order to verify it's legitimacy?

Clearly the construction and operation of this list (which to be honest they could have written out by hand on a fully illuminated parchment by now, and for that money) must be wholly insignificant in the eyes of the RCVS in relation to the revenue stream it generates.

Given this level of importance placed upon it, one might conclude that from the outset this has just been an RCVS/VMD scam to milk the profession.

As this "list" has clearly not been fit for purpose for the past year, what's the chances of a refund of at least last year's fee?

If any of us displayed this level of incompetence in relation to our professional activities we would expect to be sanctioned accordingly!

I think I might know the answer, at least in part. When speaking to RCVS about whysetting up a DD wasn't possible for the coming year, the nice lady and I must emphasise I was talking to staff not management, said they were concerned about taking money inappropriately if the practice gets sold.

I pointed out that the complexities of such a transaction and sums involved make such a mistake, easily rectified, pale into insignificance. In other words I think the fee supports the time of staff at RCVS to change things, not to not change things, if you see what I mean, or at least that's what they are told to say by their management.

No money goes to VMD.

Can anyone explain why we have to pay £40 every year to be on this register? How can it possibly cost the RCVS £40 just to make no change to an entry? Where does the money go - are there accounts that show how it is used?
