We were with NVS for years then they made it clear that smaller practices were unimportant to them. Discounts were more than halved. I let them know we would return to the when hell freezes over. We have been with Dunlops since and quite happy with their service.

Good to hear Centaur are being responsive but obviously the easiest place to get small amounts of medication will be a friendly local practice!

Just picked up on this thread. Your in my area. Hopefully you can get this nonsense with NVS sorted out but in the meantime call the Hendon clinic if there's anything else you need - we should be able to help you out.

A local vet clinic has ordered me a bottle of ACP and has offered it at cost, which is very nice of them and I've left a message on Peter's mobile, so maybe I won't have to ever place another NVS order :)

Nobody will get back to me to negotiate. They simply tell me it's policy. I know I'm not alone in having this small order charge slapped on me, it's been around for a couple of years now, I think? Anyhow, I'm glad they are working out for you so well. I'm going to investigate other options, I think.

PS my delivery drivers have always been fine too. The staff on the end of the phone, not so helpful...

From the VMD http://www.vmd.gov.uk/General/VMR/vmgn/VMGNote03.pdf:

"WHOLESALE SUPPLY
47. An authorised retailer of veterinary medicines may supply such products, which fall
within the scope of the qualification they hold, to another authorised retailer,
providing the amount does not exceed 5% in terms of annual turnover of veterinary
medicines. Any amount supplied over 5% requires a Wholesale Dealer’s
Authorisation (WDA). Guidance Note 10 provides information regarding Wholesale
Dealers’ Authorisations and is available on the VMD website (www.vmd.gov.uk)."

And from VMD Note 10: "This is intended to allow retailers to supply products to each other without additional regulation where this is necessary to alleviate supply problems that could be detrimental to animal welfare."

Peter, are you taking new accounts again? We considered Centaur about 3 - 4 years ago only to be told they didn't want any new customers so we have stuck with Dunlops. NVS annoy me with the minimum order charge. We spend over £200k a year yet if we don't order enough one day we get a stinging charge from NVS. Not a good way to attract new business but when there are only 3 real wholesalers and one doesn't want any extra business, where is the competition?

That's what I was going to say. If you do order very small amounts of stock - then see if you can get your order delivered to and left at a different practice and then just invoiced to you. It is likely to be the delivery that they resent if you are only ordering a bottle of this and an occasional tub of that. If your local practice doesn't mind, it will probably be easier for you anyway as you will be able to collect it at your convenience.
