'Ere we go.

In 1990 I was fed up with going to interviews advertised as senior assistant required with view to partnership, which turned out to be something very vague indeed.

I advertised my self anonymously, as someone looking for partnership in 18months -2 years and received 5 replies, all possibilities. I narrowed them down to 2 within a week and went on the two best interviews I've ever had. I was offered both jobs and took the one which has become my partnership.

There's a couple of lessons here I guess.

In the early 80s the VR had a sits wanted, as well as sits vacant column-time of veterinary unemplyment. Those days the sits wanted always gave full details, the sits vacant were often box nos.-practice finding a replacement before sacking the current assistant. As veterinary jobs became more plentiful, people stopped applying to box nos, so that died a natural death.

I'm not looking for an assistant, and am not going to consider one until shortly before I retire, when I'll be looking for an assistant with view to purchase-hopefully not for many years yet !!!!!!!!! If I was looking for an assistant, then yes, I would look at a sits wanted column, but would not consider an anonymous advert.

Yes - I would definately look there but I suppose it may need to be anonymous (just time graduated, personal skills, area wanted etc) as most vets are already employed.....not something a current employer wants to see!!
