Simple stuff, really - and I suspect everybody on here

Re: The camera in the room

[quote user="Arlo Guthrie"]

Yes, I think that you are correct, Arlo. I regularly use another site that consistently logs quite a large number of 'guests' in 24 hours. The explanation given by the mod is similar to yours, that these are search engine spiders and bots sniffing around but not entering.

In fact, there is one guest account which we use to demonstrate the site, but it's just like any other account. That means it shows in the list of actual members online, and not just as one of xx guests online.

Re: The camera in the room

No, no, no!

Guests are NOT members of the public reading posts on here. Note to self, must get this fixed!

A guest is someone/something who is NOT logged into the website.

Guests can see VERY LITTLE. For example, they can see the title of a job, but not who advertised it, or where it is. They can see forum post titles, but nothing of the post itself. They cannot see any aspect of a member profile.

You can simulate being a guest by logging out of the site, and taking a look round.

I need to speak with the techies, but I also think guests are significantly over-recorded, as the number is not reflected in the site stats. Most likely that 'guests' also includes search engines spidering the site to compile their listings.

Re: The camera in the room

You can't read the forums unless you're signed in.
