Yes it had crossed my mind !, but the reception staff make it perfectly clear on booking -anything other than eag and a full fee applies

Clive I bet the client knew all that needed doing in the 1st place, but just said AGs to get a cheap consult !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an annoying one last night. The client rolled in over an hour late at 5 minutes to 7, I thought ok as booked in for just an EAG, so will be quick and we will finish more or less on time. Once in the consult it turned into 15 minutes; examine eyes, examine ears and examine a s/c skin mass. The client then moaned at reception about paying a full consult fee instead of the half consult fee quoted for ONLY EAG. Also moaned about having to come back for FNA of the mass today, and not pleased with fees for sedate or GA/FNA and histology - no pleasing some people is there.

I guess it depends on whether you are trying to build up the practice and your client base, and attract and keep clients - or you are not that worried about losing them. My first boss is great guy, but was a bit hot headed at times and if people annoyed him he would tell them to b****r off elsewhere. If a client is persistently late or doesn't turn up, or are just a nuisance isn't life easier without them?

But that is a problem for people trying to find a dentist. Not a problem with pets - they'll just go to a different one.

My dentist bills people for missed appointments and he tells me most will pay. I think he said that to legal do so you have to display a notice informing people. If they don't pay he bans them from the practice.

When I saw the title of this thread, I dived in with interest hoping for some tips. I was a little disappointed to find that it was actually about "owners who are annoying"

Wouldn't be a shame if the uterus was necrotic as well as the pups and you had to remove it to save the life of the bitch.......?

Can you bill the people for the missed appointments? I know my dentist does. I suppose missing a 10 minute slot is not so bad, but when it is 30 minutes, or 2 bitch speys that don't turn up, they should be charged for your professional time, as you could have been seeing other clients or doing other procedures

As for the C-section, can you take the line; no money = no treatment (other than emergency to relieve suffering) = refer to charity clinic or PTS. If you do decide to do it out of good will or generosity, it could be on the the condition it is spayed too, or not at all.

I had a similar experience in an emergency clinic about a year ago; Shar Pei needing c-section, owner/breeder with no money. Initially she tried to bag a free C section courtesy of the PDSA, but was not eligible. We offered C-section for approx £900 or PTS for 60 quid, no other options and practice policy is strictly payment at the time. When faced with the real possibility of PTS, the money was quickly found with little effort - it was a case of "I would prefer not pay if I can get away with it" . They are a pain in the a***!

Triple appt (30 mins) booked off this morning for health check, nail clip and wing clip (grrr) on a macaw - DTU and no phone call. Gits.

Saw a bitch last thurs that was due to whelp last wed, hadn't done anything but cervix starting to dilate - told something should happen within 24-48hrs - came back in yesterday, needed c-section, all pups dead, owner has no money, refused to allow spaying.
