That is why I only ever give my work address to the RCVS, not my home address. When I was doing my certificate they sold my details on to a CPD provider so that they could "tailor my learning experience". I had a bit of a whinge at that as I don't remember giving my consent for my information to be sold to external companies.

Sad to say the register was never confidential. I got persued for a couple of years by a pack of sharks in Centrepoint Tower , Tottenham Court Road, trying to sell me dubious investment policies. They would phone and interupt me at work, some chap with an economics PhD 'Dr Whoever' needed to speak to me urgently...I always thought it was about a mutual case/ referral/ former client - somthing I had done wrong - and it drove me crazy.

The RCVS sells copies to anyone who wants one!

They burn well in multi fuel burners, give off loads of heat too. With coal at £450 per tonne I wonder if the RCVS could send me several every day?

Mine do - get a good blaze going. Just bought one of those gizmos for making paper bricks (or briquettes if you're posh/French) to see if I could heat the house with junk mail and veterinary journals

Mine go into municipal recycling bins, they are not confidential and are in fact available in public libraries. I think the RCVS should move to online versions, and do away with hard copies except where requested. Would be much cheaper - might even see a reduction in membership fees ??

By the virtue of the fact that it's published information, it's not confidential, so I don't think there would be a problem disposing of it as you would any other directory.

You may be interested to know that the College is looking to move publication of both the Register and the Directory online over the next few years. This will help reduce cost and waste, improve our carbon footprint and mean that more up-to-date information will be available. The hard copy Register and Directory are out of date as soon as they are printed, unfortunately.
