I got the details for the routine Distemper, Adenovirus

Re: Vaccination: to jab or not to jab

[quote user="Emily Nightingale"]the titres came back as too low for adequate immunity.
Hmm... very open minded.

Cheers,

Seems an odd way for her to choose to waste money.

Unless she's going to use a homeopathic vaccine? If she did then it would be interesting to repeat the blood tests to see what effect that had (I suspect that she may as well give it distilled water)

Re: Vaccination: to jab or not to jab

Thank you all for the feedback. Just to let you know, all the titres came back as too low for adequate immunity.

Thanks again all.

Tell her that the dog may be at risk as she hasn't had the booster at a year so whilst you are waiting for the titre results it may be best to keep the bitch away from other dogs or areas where dogs congregate. This will avoid contracting Parvo etc which let's face is probably the most prevalent at the moment.

Then if titres are high the dog is fine to go out and obviously won't need vaccinating and you'll both be pleased. If titres are low then she'll be glad she kept the dog in, you vaccinate it and you're both pleased. Win-win

Re: Vaccination: to jab or not to jab

Dear Ms Nightingale,

Shouldn't you be blood testing the pups? There's more known about MDA and the challenge required to overwhelm MDA. This may also tell you when to vaccinate them and advise the owner accordingly.

Wouldn't it be amazing if the recommendation corresponds with the data sheets?

Regs

JGW

PS One of my favourite breeder quirks is when the owner of the dog asks for vaginal swabbing for bacteria from the bitch's parts. I always point out that his todger, having been put to multiple use should also receive some consideration.... before expressing my uncertainty as to the merits of this activity.

Re: Vaccination: to jab or not to jab

In some ways this breeder is being responsible, she is finding out how protected her bitch is and then making with your advice, an informed decision.
