Rosario, I have used all the devices over the years. However the Canine Amplatz Duct Occluder, so far, has resulted in complete occlusion in all dogs to date (~40 ). Whereas the previous device I used (the human ADO) did not fit perfectly in a few dogs, resulting in residual flow (but clinically insignificant). The coils tend to produce residual flow in medium and large ducts (small ducts they close well).

I wonder if such device works with "zero tolerance" or could allow any residual flow.

The prognosis is good for all dogs of all breeds and sizes, provided it is closed before there is advanced heart failure.

The Mastiff presented at 14 months old. The palpable grade 5 murmur was discovered preGA for something else. There was already cardiomegaly and heart failure - but not too advanced so I'm betting she'll do fine.
