He basically explained that it's very hard to get struck off as long as you are honest and your clinical notes are contemporaneous.

Two for me:

Nigel Swayne, owner of my foster practice during vet school. Very old school, mixed vet, lovely to people he cared about but didn't take any bullshit. Watching a consultation with him was a performance, he really knew how to talk to clients and I still catch myself now and again (15 years later!) standing like he used to in a consult room or using some of his phrases. He used to be on the disciplinary committee and he helped remove all fear of the RCVS as a new-graduate for me.

Dr Ed Hall at Bristol University - such an intelligent man, but loved teaching and always had time for students. Unflappable and calm in a crisis.

Mike Martin! Saw practice with him as a vet student while he was a GP vet in Cornwall. Taught me a lot about cardiology, being a compassionate vet in general and how to drink 'rusty nails'

Also Malcom Ness-teaching me the importance of 'picking up a case and shaking it' til you get a diagnosis and agreed plan of action with the client. A bit of a marmite character but great mentor in my early career

Am I allowed a vote, not being a vet and all? Two people who showed me great kindness when I started on the periphery of the profession ... David Scarff and Mike Martin, the latter of whom was brave enough to be the subject of the first article I ever wrote in a magazine - a profile piece in Veterinary Practice magazine.

Completely agree. A brilliant vet, wonderful person, and to me personally an incredible mentor and one of my best friends. A visionary when it came to the veterinary professions role in the wider world, and the profession was better for having him in it.

Jim Pinsent. He taught medicine but he also taught us how to be veterinary surgeons.

As students we were all very scared of Barbara Weaver. She could have a very sharp tongue to students. (Probably we needed it.) Then as soon as I graduated she turned into a very nice person with an aged mother.

Great people, all three. David Culley was very pleasant to deal with as a receiving referral vet. Used to send cases to me even tho I was a couple of hours away

Richard Patton. He was my first clinical director in a CVS Practice in Sheffield about 12-15 years ago. He was kind, patient, fair and logical. He was also very supportive and arranged for me to see practice in other CVS practices. I don't believe he is on here, he did not strike me as the internet type.

I find myself repeating to my younger colleagues things he said to me 15 years ago. He was not a specialist in any particular field but he is an extraordinary human.

The two David’s , Scarff and Lloyd along with David Culley who I saw practice with helped I still an interest in dermatology. Thanks David’s I still prefer treating the medical patients who come back for frequent checks but live long and happy lives

Danny Scott for me! Humble, giving and a teacher through and through! Keynote speaker for the first World dermatology Congress, who spent two hours assembling name badges to clear a queue of people registering.
