A clinic who sometimes refer cases to me sent a message asking me to review patient files through a google docs link
All very feasible, even had a patient name. It must have been horrible experience for you.

Spouse v.1 recently had a scam call from our bank. Knowing they just about never call us, she put it on speaker and she strung them along, but it was very convincing, and I do worry that more trusting/less cynical people would have given them everything they need.

If you click the link, it flashes up and says ' you failed, try better' (not actually what it says but you get the idea). If you report it as phishing you get a 'well done you clever sausage' email.

RE: heads up: email hacking attempts

The really remarkable thing about it (as one of the recipients of the phishing email), was I saw an email from Alasdair. I read it. I thought 'that's strange' (it was asking me to click a link and sign a doc for Alasdair, which I wouldn't expect him to do without having explained what it was first).

Also, it did refer to him as the office manager, which I thought was an odd career change (but maybe someone had asked him to manage a veterinary office for a period of time).

So I emailed him back saying I had not clicked it thinking may be a virus.

Quick as a flash, they replied (from Alasdair's email) ... "not virus, open document".

I thought that was strangely perfunctory from Alasdair, so I emailed back saying better ring if you want me to sign.

I SO nearly clicked it!

The moral of the story is NEVER click a link to something where you might be asked to share your details, even if it comes from the bona fide email address of someone you know.

RE: heads up: email hacking attempts

thank you for sharing
