My daughter recently had one of her 3 dogs - a male - pts due to a neurological condition in a leg. Since then her other 2 female dogs have been attacking each other. She is distraught. Any advice I can give her please?REGARDS

Wolf packs generally have a dominant male and female pair but the pack is thought to be matriarchal in general with males essentially fighting for places in the hierarchy in their own hierarchy away from female influence.

Sometimes one big fight sets the hierarchy for life. Tends to happen when one female is older (7+) and one younger (3+) and generally is replacement of older by younger. Can be tough to watch but generally will lead to more harmony in future. Think of a boxing match or sticking a dog on with a ram. Short term pain, longer term gain.

Neutering both (if not already) may help especially if cycling at the same time.

As said replacing the male with an (adult) male may also help restore some order.

RE: Any suggestions to stop two aggressive female dogs attacking each other?

Replace the dead male?

RE: Any suggestions to stop two aggressive female dogs attacking each other?
Derek, in my opinion the females should either be separated at home or one of them rehomed. I am yet to see even one case of aggression fixed by a behaviourist.
I came here to say this ^^^^

I'm yet to see a veterinary behaviourist achieve anything, other than medicate all personality away, and I can do that myself if I want to.

RE: Any suggestions to stop two aggressive female dogs attacking each other?

Dinu , I know it is very difficult but if they lived in harmony prior to the loss of the male then it may be possible to manage them . It is hard and requires a lot of input and only works in a small proportion of cases but without a proper assessment I would not be that negative.
it depends on the breed , the dedication of the family and what alternatives are available. It is often easier for the family and the dogs to rehome one but that is not always possible.
find a dedicated APBC member

I managed two border collie bitches , one belonging to my parents and one of mine when they had to move into my house . It took a year or so of hard management and then ongoing monitoring but worked eventually

RE: Any suggestions to stop two aggressive female dogs attacking each other?

Derek, in my opinion the females should either be separated at home or one of them rehomed.
