One other idea. We (RATA and VOST peripatetic surgeons) use custom drape packs from DVH that have this as part of the contents. Highly recommended.

I was told during an arthroscopy course that at Liverpool they tried the same and the centre of the roll was not sterile. I use normal vetrap and place a glove over it since.

I used to think the same but a student nurse at Langford actually did a study (using a vacuum autoclave) and it did reliably sterilise all through

I'd be interested to test whether you can culture viable bacteria from one off the shelf (from a sealed pack). I bet they are already sterile or fairly close.....

That doesn't mean it's sterile (especially toward the middle of the roll) when you've done it.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be unpleasant, or argumentative for the sake of it, just throwing out the comment in the hope of perhaps leading the discussion on.

Actually you can autoclave it in a vacuum autoclave. But DVH will be able to get some put through EO if you prefer

We gas sterilise quite a few bits and pieces from local practices at a modest cost.
