Can a practice fail their practice standards for failing to label the box with the broach date for a cardboard box containing 2 single use librela doses.

The PSS is completely meaningless.

I have never had a single client enquire or ask about it at all.

The 2 best practices I have worked in by a long way, a real pleasure to work for, are both small independents, not in the PSS. Best, both in terms of high standards of veterinary care and client care. Staff and many clients have been there for decades, books are full with awaiting list for new clients, no need to advertise PSS or not.

On the other side of the coin, I have worked in some very mediocre PSS practices, that I am at a loss how they managed to be able to join at all.

From my experience as a locum of 23 years this year, and having worked in many diffferent practices, the PSS does not deliver or guarantee a good or better standard of care at all. Ours on this year’s inspection included such things as to get our pat testing up to date as it was due ( our electicriab had been too busy before the PSS visit to fit it in) and checking the controlled drug cupboard more often (one out of date box of drugs found in there that we had missed). Very few practices won’t have a list of requirements, some long, some short. It’s not a fail, just things to sort and send evidence to the inspector. I still think that advice is wrong, but it’s bit a fail (I’m married to a retired PSS inspector).

RE: Can a practice fail practice standards for failing to label Librela box with broach date?

This whole thing is Horsesh1t, and certainly needs challenging.

The box of 2 vials comes from the manufacturer sealed and with a shelf life use by date of 2 years post manufacture. This date is not changed by opening the cardboad box. Any so called broach date is therefore not relevant.

All of the contents of a vial are administered in one injection, and the empty vial discarded. It is not stored for future use, so therefore again no broach date is relevant.

OK, so this may show my lack of understanding in pass / fail

It was pointed out as thing to improve on.

The implications are that the inspector will check that behaviour is rectified at the next years inspection

As a result, the practice now have to write a broach date on the cardboard box every time a vial is taken out, so that they get in the habit for next time.

My point is that, all this adds to the day is another thing to think about, and that for an inspector to point it out may not be correct.

Inspections are tough for everyone, but it is up to the inspector to at least get it right and be reasonable? It's a culminative thing in my opinion.
