Thing is, we really do need a very clear purpose to differentiate this community from Facebook, and it has to be something which we are substantially better at.

General chats compete directly with Facebook, and Facebook has more people to get involved quicker, so it's better. Questions, on the other hand, we do SO, SO much better. Here they are stored for everyone's benefit. We give context. We don't censor. We have a stricter rule for manners than many on Facebook.

But that doesn't mean the end of conversations ... just that they need to be framed so as to start with a question.

'To help each other' - I want to emphasise the question aspect of all of this, because it is a much more precise call to action than 'helping each other', which is actually what people do elsewhere too.

'ask, or answer' Where did that stray comma come from. Thanks! I shall remove it.

'anyone who answers' - not sure I can quite make that claim yet (that everyone has completed their profile). But maybe that doesnt matter, it's the point I am making. I was discussing with Alasdair and we both thought that whilst we like 'provenance', not everyone will know what it means, and context would be a better word. Putting questions and answers into context is, I think, as important as recognising qualifications, so I think both have to stay??? Would you agree?

How about this:

VetSurgeon members complete their member profiles, so their posts have context and we can recognise advanced qualifications.

I like it Arlo. Agree with the emphasis on this being a friendly civil area to seek advice and interaction with likeminded individuals . I hope your new format is successful , I do miss the chats rather than the questions but I understand your desire to change the format and move forward.
