Get a good URL first. I snagged www.veterinarylocum.com It’s memorable and lots have asked’how did you get that?’

I pay for a website through a friend who hosts it. It costs about £12/month and the URL about £30/year to keep going. With a proper diary it’s been a fabulous asset. It really is all about having a decent availability calendar

it depends what you want on the website, you can certainly add files and video yourself but it takes practice and pixel sizes/modules are pretty finicky. I have built and look after www.bikexplore.co.uk

I would have thought that you don’t need a dynamic website, one that is updated all the time, more one that presents you well from the start, so I’d look for a we designer to set things up and maybe you maintain it, however it can get expensive as I’m sure that Arlo will attest

I use names.co.uk (took over previous ukservers.co.uk) for my own domain web and email hosting. I have not designed or developed a website with them, but believe they do offer this service.

I have always found them to be very helpful, and the service is extremely reliable.

Wix has lots of very nice templates, you can sign up and play for free. You only need to pay anything once you use your own domain name.

Squarespace is really slinky but sometimes a bit slow to upload in the uk, apparently.

You can create a good presence on Linked in too.
