We are a 5 vet small animal practice with a regular, rather than heavy, flow of X-rays.
Any opinions why we should choose a new CR or DR system?
And even who we should buy it from?
Thank you all

RE: Should we buy a new CR or DR xray system?

we upgraded a year or so ago - as well as the improved image quality, the whole process is just so much less labour intensive / time consuming - which encourages more people to do it.

We got our system form vet x-rays. very pleased with it.

I doubt you'll regret an upgrade.

RE: Should we buy a new CR or DR xray system?

We have just upgraded to a DR system and the difference is remarkable compared to our old CR system. The increased detail is really noticeable.

We had repeated issues with our CR plates getting stuck, having to reset the machine or call out the engineer to fix it.

The DR plate stays inside our x-ray table and the speed of acquiring the image is fantastic.

RE: Should we buy a new CR or DR xray system?

We upgraded to DR from CR a couple of years ago. All I can say is we rarely take a bad X-ray these days (unless not positioned well). Even if you don’t use our standard settings it still seems to take a really good view. And the fact you can instantly see the results and take more so fast means we take more radiographs and are quicker to book things in for radiography therefore increasing revenue. It is so simple to use. Ours comes with two batteries which are interchangeable, and we just keep in the habit of always having one charged.

We also invested in a protective cover for the plate (mainly as we also do equine work) which means it is protected from water/urine etc.

RE: Should we buy a new CR or DR xray system?

Brilliant feedback thanks. Someone else also pointed out that DR plates need to be charged and people forget!

RE: Should we buy a new CR or DR xray system?

I couldn't find a reaon to spend more on a dr when i looked in 2020.

The arguments for the dr seemed to be:

1) It isn't that much more expensive

2) That's the direction technology is heading in

Against that:

It was more expensive

I could do dental plates on the same CR as normal plates.

if someone breaks the dr plate that is very expensive; i like being able to put my cr plates in funny places if i wish and not worry about it. That said, the CR developer can be temperamental with its moving bits.
