I think own flights is better but have one pick-up that meets the 'preferred' flight from the UK.

Either way would work, but if people are coming on different flights you might need to organise several pick ups at the airport.

OK, so I’ve not organised one of these trips before, and could do with some input from you:

The trip would be for one week, possibly next year April/May: probably leave on a Saturday, returning the following Sunday.

Airport transfers, food and lodging included (drinks and snacks at your own discretion)

All activities included: rhino tracking, sedation and dehorning, general spoor tracking, snare-sweeps, anti-poaching unit demonstration, bird-watching, star-gazing, one day game-drive in nearby “Big-5” game reserve.

Would you….
A) prefer to organise my own flights to/from Johannesburg. (perhaps add on a trip to Cape Town or Kruger National Park, which I can help you organise). The trip commences with a pick-up at Joburg airport, how you get there is your choice

B) prefer an all inclusive deal beginning and ending in the UK (ie. We all meet at a UK airport for the same flight = less flexible).

I’d like to organise a week in South Africa during which time a group of us will assist in rhino dehorning procedures as well as a variety of other research projects. Dates TBC.
Facilities are basic but adequate (flush toilets, showers, kitchen and bbq area… electricity… most of the time).

There will be time to just immerse yourselves in the African bush, and we can arrange a mini-safari in a neighbouring “Big-5” game reserve.

Flights to Johannesburg are 12-15 hours.
The reserve is about 3 hour drive from Johannesburg.

I was in Madikwe a couple weeks ago! Not where the volunteering is based, but enjoyed the luxury bush expetience at Thakadu.

How fantastic , I’m off to Madikwe in SA at the beginning of November but as a guest not a volunteer. Helped with taking blood from a darted lioness a few years ago , amazing experience. Great idea to start a group
