Mosquito forceps are excellent for fishing out a tiny screw that has dropped somewhere inaccessible, like into the working of a mixer tap.

Well Yes,clearly any task requiring suturing/sewong whatever needed the use of the Gillies and forceps stored n my car bot when working... Why else would I keep them there FHS?? Thanks. As a mere male, striving to adapt to solo living by attempting to learn some of the intricate and finicky tasks performed perfunctorily by whichever better half was in residence when a need arose, as a convenient division of the menial and the muscular, where lawn mowing aboard a five-speed Honda was, quite naturally, to me, my preserve, and the reattachment of wayward buttons, hers, I have found this last example an intellectual challenge too far. And that after 70 plus years of intense observation initially for 20 plus of the matriarch followed by nearly 40 of one or other of the chosen residents. Despair, deep despair ensued, occasioned by the increased girth of years of G’n’T sampling at sunset which resulted in a favoured and necessary trouser closing button being launched at warp speed into the rough as the Honda lurched over a particularly unflattenable mole ventilation shaft.

Two hours later, bleeding copiously from a number of fingers attached to only one pair of hands, caused by the implements from a previous residents “sewing box of Pandora” being inadequate and unfit for purpose, the EUREKA moment exploded inside an underused caucus of brain cells.

Vicryl, with swaged on curved needle, antique Gillies, and an Anglepoise lamp later - and the job was done to perfection. Thank you.

Many (many) years ago the chap baking our wedding cake asked for a big syringe and long needle to inject sherry gradually over several weeks. It was a delicious cake as far as I recall

We got a house cheap as the tenants had been evicted - as a parting gift they smeared dog shit on the walls and hadn’t flushed the loo for a long time. Many rectal gloves were handy when unblocking that toilet!
