Do you have any recommendation for a voluntary work abroad? Where should I look? I don’t mind if it’s a neutering clinic or conservation project, just need a change .
Thank you

Big neutering project but also does lots of emergency and ambulatory work. I spent 4 weeks out there just over 10 years ago as a student and loved it.

RE: Voluntary work abroad

Fabulous places I've been to:

MAWN/MAUN in Botswana. Neutering street dogs in cities and near safaris in Botswana. Wonderful people, great accomodation, and a free 5* safari at the end of the trip. My best one.

Grenada GSPCA. Caribbean. Established clinic. Partly funded by private work (vaccinating western dogs on sailing trips), treating local dogs of local population, lots of stray work, neutering, same island as St George's Uni so plenty of help from students

Greek Cat Welfare. Neutering as many cats as possible. Some on wonderful islands. Hard work but essential and wonderful support teams,

Carriacou Animal Hospital - as per GSPCA, minus students.

Just pick one - they're great. I've done a few through WVS and tbh no value added except lumbering you with a load of bandages you never use. It's the best working holiday you'll ever do.

RE: Voluntary work abroad

I’ve done quite a bit in the past, best to contact charities directly if you want to make the most impact. Most middle people / organisers take a fee from you or the charity so avoid like the plague. They add no value.

I don’t work for charities abroad if they ask for a fee - you’re giving a huge resource that is not available locally and if they paid you it would cost them a fortune. There was a Sri Lanka one a few years back run by someone in the North East that wanted £500 per volunteer to go and help with ortho surgery out there. As if.

RE: Voluntary work abroad

Please check out

There are many primate sanctuaries in Africa that you can reach out to. https://pasa.org. You are better off contacting the sanctuaries directly. I am assuming you do not mind primate work. Let me know how you get on.

It was good fun, and they provided flights, accommodation and food. I even had the use of a car on days off to go off and explore. Greek working day seems to be 3 - 4 hours, not too arduous and are far more relaxed than here in the UK. Mornings are steady, then there will be a big cooked lunch lasting 1-2 hours., then a siesta 3-4 hours, then not too much in the evening either. Although a much more relaxed pace, we still neutered around 380 cats.

I am not sure if now being out of the EU would effect the legality of working in EU counteries?

The guy is kind, approachable, and very patient. Basically it's all about neutering dogs and getting them ready to be sent to other EU countries, mainly Holland. You would get familiar with pet passports and parasites you either don't see or are less common in colder areas, like leishmania, erhlichia, babesia, filaria, or Lyme disease.
