On the list were the British Veterinary Locum Association.
They have a website https://vetlocum.blogspot.com but it's a bit sparse, one blog post from July 2021 and a facebook

RE: British Veterinary Locum Association

Yep I joined the FB group at its inception. Its formation was triggered around the time of the looming IR35 changes, and kind of developed off the back of some of the IR35 locum groups a couple of years ago. Its not only about that but that's what kicked it off.

It is a really useful group and like Sarah says it lacks a formal structure etc as yet, but the FB group is very active in answering advice queries, and being proactive developing lots of guides; how to navigate the locum world and helping to dispel the misinformation and misunderstanding generated by some of the agencies and corporates. It is not anti-IR35, or anti corporate, it is pro fair assessment and supporting its members with facts.

RE: British Veterinary Locum Association
It's Locum Vets in the UK
No, that is another facebook posting page for locums but seems to be taken over by recruiters - or is that one of the other ones? Anyways the BVLA doesn't allow recruiters in or to post (I hope - they say they police who they allow in).

RE: British Veterinary Locum Association
On the list were the British Veterinary Locum Association.
I agree entirely. I'm pro IR35, and just want a fair assessment as to whether I am allowed to be self-employed or not.

At the moment I'm working for a group now owned by IVC, and they are accepting self-employed sole trader status.

So far, I have remained self-employed with no issues at all.

RE: British Veterinary Locum Association

Hi Sarah

On this Facebook group we discuss topics relating to locum working and support each other in this as no other representative association or group does this for locum workers in the veterinary profession currently.

I agree the group looks shrouded in mystery to the outsider but we (royal we - I have joined the Facebook group) have no hidden agendas. We share info on how to set up as sole trader or ltd company, the pros and cons of working with and umbrella or an agency.

I do think the group needs to have more structure in who is in the 'committee' (someone volunteered himself de fato chairman and recruited committee members), how the association is structured (needs a constitution). It did mean that locums had representation at the RCVS Summit Day, whereas previously to the BVLA we would not of had this.

Join the Facebook group as you are a locum.

RE: British Veterinary Locum Association

Locums aren't anti IR35 - we want fair assessment not the blanket assessments that currently penalise locums and benefits the corporates who are pushing their zero-hours contracts.
