Sorry for undoubtedly inappropriate use of forum, but all doctors here closed presently (including OOH service).

RE: At what temperature in a human should you seek medical advice?

that's awfully kind of you julian, and most helpful. i;ll probably try the ibuprofen if i go above 40 tonight. For a child the use of cold bath and/or ice-packs are recommended! She mentioned the rebound-sign by checking for appendicitis!. = Pressing on that abdominal area to assess any pain response specific to there? I hope that this is helpful?

I use a private GP for routine matters, who don't provide OOH or emergency cover. If I rang them with this query and they thought I needed to be seen, they would refer back to the NHS

RE: At what temperature in a human should you seek medical advice?

My niece and her husband have both tested +ve despite two vaccinations. She is feeling a bit low but he is fine in himself. We need to start working out how much we should be panicking about covid.

Will be interested in what the government actually do next week. The main purpose of lockdowns etc was to protect the NHS and reduce serious illness or death. Is this on the way to being achieved?

Hope you feel better soon!

RE: At what temperature in a human should you seek medical advice?

thanks guys. i've got someone to get me ibuprofen so i have it in the house. i seem to remember a thing about if asthmatic to speak to a doctor before taking (I've never had a need to take before), but as doctors still closed i think i'll just have to make my own ill-informed decision in the absence of any doctors, should my temperature spike again.

the temperature peaked at 39.9 and is back to normal this morning. this has been the pattern for the last 3 days however so i'm not optimistic that i'm over it quite yet.Interestingly, had I taken the ibuprofen (or anything else for that matter), I would have assumed that it was responsible for the drop in termperature - the problem with cyclic disease!

I tried the babylon thing and had a really good symptom checker on it. actually speaking to a gp was a little more problematic however. i got as far as uploading my passport, but failed at the photo-recognition point and then gave up out of exhaustion. I might try again today while temp is down.

I'm PCR negative for COVID (done on Sunday, by me, competently I believed) and have had 2 x AZ vaccines, but I'm thinking regular COVID might be most likely explanation (followed by flu, followed by other viral infection, followed by bacterial infection).

Doing temperature orally under tongue with Philips Avent thermometer.

RE: At what temperature in a human should you seek medical advice?

My aughter's spiked suddenly to 40.5 tonight. Gave calpol, nothing, got the A&E, she had some ibuprofen and by the time the doctor saw her half an hour later she was running riots. Felt like a fraud.

Hope it's just viral and you'll be better soon. At this temperature I would seek help as well.

RE: At what temperature in a human should you seek medical advice?

How are you doing? Any idea where the site of the trouble is? It would depend on the organ system how serious I‘d take it. With mastitis for instance it can easily go up, but I think that‘s unlikely in your case

I‘d ring the NHS helpline first rather than go to A&E.. Have you got private insurance? We‘ve got BUPA and when I had a problem I got a zoom appointment with a Babylon GP within 10 minutes, which accelerated my access to the normal GP (Who of course is closed now)
