Northern Ireland politics is generally always disappointing to watch, but the next 2 weeks are going to be especially

RE: Northern Ireland politics

So Sinn Fein predictably went with the "reasonable" request for an Irish Language Act, or a promise to sit on their hands.

Cue chaos and the loss of the new DUP leader after only 3 weeks in the job.

With Generals Janvier and Fevrier a faint memory, and General Lockdown on the retreat, this is shaping up to be an absolute car crash of a marching season... Other than persistent, heavy rain (always hope for that in Northern Ireland) it's unclear what else could intervene favourably just now?

RE: Northern Ireland politics

I find NI politics very confusing and complicated.

I have never understood why anyone should fight against teaching the Irish language to those that want it. All differences should be valued and respected rather than opposed.

The divide in NI is deep and is a real scar. The behaviour of the British in the past was at times despicable but the opposition was hardly angelic.

There is so little margin of good will that I see nothing but friction until a politician with true charisma appears (if at all).

My childhood was spent expecting explosions on the British mainland and I really don't want this to happen again. If the unionist side feel under threat (as I suspect they do at the moment) then they will fight and violence may become the norm again.

There is no place for the present nonsense that prevents sausages being shipped to NI. There is no place for Welsh pets to need export health certificates to travel to NI.

This has to stop and if it means the UK has to rip up the Brexit agreement then we may just have to live with the consequences of that. The EU may push things to that point.

Boris was willing to have the country leave without an agreement and that may be the result in the end.

Very sad that the people involved are so inflexible and fixed in their views. They could all so easily get on with each other and be the happier for it IMO!
