Ah! moment.
As I said it’s been a bit of a busy few weeks for several reasons. I didn’t realise I was creating a zoom account when I registered for the VetSurgeon meeting. Working on automatic pilot and not paying attention. Thank you for helping me work that out Arlo Guthrie . At least I should now be able to manage the technology for next time!

I think you'll find you do!!!

In order to register for a VetSurgeon zoom meeting, you have to have a zoom account. You had registered, so you must have a zoom account. Best to request a new password then login with your email and that password.

I don’t have a zoom account.
I clicked on link you sent and seems I got sent to the wrong part of zoom.
I’ll have a test run with someone else’s zoom. I think I was using chrome for the first time with zoom. They may have something to do with it.

It looked to me like you were trying to log into your zoom account with the wrong account details ... either email address or your password. When it failed the first time, you probably should have asked for a password reminder.

I'll be uploading the meeting later, with a list of the questions and answers and timings in the description, so people can skip to the questions that interest them.

Must say, I enjoyed last night. Hope everyone else did. Seemed to go very well and was, as I hoped, very relaxed. I think small group zoom meetings work much better than big webinars/meetings, so the model of having small meetings and then sharing with the wider audience via youtube is a good one, although the real test will be how popular the film proves to be!

I hope it went well last night. Sorry to have missed it, I tried to join the meeting several times but my email or log in code wasn’t correct. After several attempts I was locked from Zoom also. Never had that happen with Zoom before. Arlo Guthrie any ideas? Could my email have been misspelt ?

We've had 83 registrations so far, and selected 8 questions from those submitted which Alasdair will answer tonight, in a very informal chat type format.

Pre-Covid a local referral centre was hosting small group CPD discussions with their specialists in pubs in the North West. Did have a good takeup and positive feedback so it is probably a good direction to take it.

Big fan of Have I Got News For You too, but struggling to see that format translating easily to zoom. I mean, they've had a team of scriptwriters working on it for a week!

As a newbie to VetSurgeon I'd really like to put faces to names, particularly the regular contributors.

Personally, I'd be in favour of a "Have I Got News For You" sort of format at the (almost) end of the week - Friday evening - where some of us are winding down from vet stuff, some have switched off and the wise owls switched off years ago. Irreverence being the key.

10-20% vet related and the rest just life and people's take on it, with one very important caveat: what happens on zoom stays on zoom, especially if politics or religion are up for discussion.

Topic for week 1: "people who bought very expensive dogs at the outset of covid are wrongfully shamed and happen to be the lifeblood of my practice. I won't hear a word said against them".

Maybe too tricky to moderate, Arlo?

Great, then I am wondering to myself ...

a) when to email everyone with details / an invite. If we are doing this next tuesday evening at 8:00pm, I'm minded to send an email that morning, because perhaps more likely people will remember (and I don't see it as an event people will want in their diary a long time in advance, it's more of a 'if you're about, it would be good to see you, kind of thing).

b) how we have some structure to the debate (or whether we should). Is it just a sit round the fire kind of thing, and people talk when they want. Or should there be more of a point to it. Should I try and get someone to argue one side of the debate and someone the other, and then a vote at the end.

That would be a good debating point. I’d be happy to join in to discuss. Pyjama trousers may be worn along with a T-shirt and fleece for the top half ( it’s chilly up North!).

My zoom experience was a little jaundiced because I had to speak to relatives! A bit like the compulsory phone calls to relatives as a child because we had too!

KathW I was just a bit nervous of having another 'social' without first having a raison d'etre.

What I mean by that is ... the last one was very spontaneous, and the reason was to bring Julian a little cheer! If we're going to have regular socials, I don't think they can be based on the idea of just joining a zoom meeting ... and then what?! We could just end up staring at each other!

I think we need theme, or a talking point we can start with (and always branch out from there).

For example, do you think it would be interesting or fun to take one item of national news from that week, and debate it? Non veterinary. ie it's designed to take the mind off your day to day job.

Or it could be the reverse, a discussion about something veterinary.

Thoughts (anyone)?

Anthony Todd The way it works is that first I find someone interesting to talk to (an expert from a specific field), then we invite people and get some advance questions, then I advertise it more broadly.
