Will pass on.

Their intention was to volunteer for a welfare charity, not sure where, out there who regularly need orthopaedic vets apparently. It seems that is out from what you say.

RE: Volunteering in Canada

Hi David, I know this is a bit late, but I work in Canada (British Columbia). Rules are different depending on which province you're in, but as a general rule you can't do any form of practice if you don't have a Canadian license. I've been scolded more than once by colleagues for allowing vet students later on in their course to do too much in the British fashion. That said you can work as an unlicensed technician (more than a nurse, less than a vet) doing a very wide and varied level of practical patient managements, you just can't prescribe or diagnose. Surgery under direct supervision is very grey - in BC it's a bit more forgiving, in Ontario and Alberta they will string you up for allowing a student to do anything like that.

Short answer: you need a license for the province you work in
