The RCVS ViVet Programme is hosting a webinar to introduce veterinary professionals to the concept of ‘design thinking’ and how it can be used in the context of veterinary

RE: RCVS to tell vets how to think

I looked but the webinar is a live, interactive event in the middle of the working day - only going to be attended by management I guess?

RE: RCVS to tell vets how to think

Oops

I was being perversely flippant regarding your headline.

Sorry

Rgds

PS but question of their overreach remains valid, i think.

RE: RCVS to tell vets how to think
I owe the RCVS a huge apology. Someone there was worried about my headline 'RCVS to tell vets how to think'. I was dismissive. I said 'Don't be daft, nobody is going to read that headline literally. It's just a headline to get maximum interest in the event'.
I think the problem may be that many vets consider the RCVS is telling them how to think, and most vets still consider themselves free-thinking individual professionals, and as such your headline will have touched a nerve already raw. E.g.:

"We have also introduced outcomes-focused CPD, including a ‘reflect’ element in the ‘plan, do, record, reflect’ cycle. Our new CPD model focuses on the quality, impact and relevance of your CPD. We would encourage you to begin reflective practice as soon as possible, as it will become compulsory from January 2022."

not to mention their "supporting guidance" that seems to have morphed back into a rule-book that must be followed to the letter (rather than being, er, guidance).

That said, vetbl.locum having started a thread, and you replying to it, has made me actually click through to the RCVS Design Thinking webinar and while I would have ignored another email from the college without opening it (and the title "design thinking" sounds deathly boring and was asking to be mocked), I'm actually thinking that looks quite fun and I might sign up.

Perhaps no advertising is bad advertising after all? By taking a dig (inadvertent or otherwise) at the RCVS you may have drummed up more interest and attention in the actual event? [RCVS-bashing is like click-bait to vets]

RE: RCVS to tell vets how to think

Oh my good god!

I owe the RCVS a huge apology. Someone there was worried about my headline 'RCVS to tell vets how to think'. I was dismissive. I said 'Don't be daft, nobody is going to read that headline literally. It's just a headline to get maximum interest in the event'.

And here we go ... vetbl.locum - you seem to have read it as the College said some people would.

I was completely wrong, and I apologise unreservedly to the RCVS. I have changed the headline.

I guess the question of the RCVS overreaching itself is a reasonable discussion point, although perhaps if I had gone with the headline I have now, the issue would never have come up in the first place.

As always, the RCVS is damed if it does and damned if it doesn't. I must say, I read the release and thought 'oh, that's interesting', and that if the College is holding a webinar (which is not an expensive exercise in the grand scheme of things) which shares something that may be of practical help for MsRCVS, then that's a good thing.
