I would be more than happy to volunteer to vaccinate a few humans on my day off. I'm guessing if I vaccinate 10 people, that's 10 people

RE: Can we/Should we use our premises to vaccinate people against covid19?
I'm pretty sure the forces will get drafted in to help with this and free up GPs. Makes sense to me- they are far better organised and have teams of medics and trained first aiders
This. During the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001 the army were amazing - they do logistics very well (much better than vets!) and in my experience made a massive difference.

RE: Can we/Should we use our premises to vaccinate people against covid19?

I'm pretty sure the forces will get drafted in to help with this and free up GPs.
I suspect the vaccines will be distributed and kept in dry ice (-90 degrees) rather than freezers, a lot cheaper, straight forward logistics and it’s already produced for the airway industry who doesn’t need it anymore.

This being said I don’t think we should be vaccinating people, we are not doctors or nurses and most practices are not suitable anyway.
And I don’t think it’s fair to risk our own staff’s safety when there is is NHS staff, better paid, doing a lot less than normal. The NHS being the whale of a system it is should relocate resources but I guess it’s not easy.

RE: Can we/Should we use our premises to vaccinate people against covid19?

Not if you get a share of £150m!

RE: Can we/Should we use our premises to vaccinate people against covid19?

Seems a waste of a GP's time when a nurse or pharmacist could be doing it.

RE: Can we/Should we use our premises to vaccinate people against covid19?

one of the issues will be that patients have to remain on site for 15-30 mins, to monitor for side effects, so local sports arenas are likely to be used.
GPs only get paid if people complete the course i.e. the second injection is given - they still have to pay for the vaccine apparently.

As an aside, vets are now able to get antibody tests on the NHS (home testing kit, free) if you register on the website.

RE: Can we/Should we use our premises to vaccinate people against covid19?

I very much doubt that would be the plan. More likely the NHS take over church halls and leisure centres. That way there would be scope for a small number of supervisors with human medicine experience to deal with any reactions. The logistics of making sure practice premises met the required human standards would be a nightmare.

This would help cover any legal requirements. Insurance cover would have to be provided by the government.

I have no issues with doing a few shifts if it means I get a bit of the £150m the doctors are expected to get!!
