I like the mug! Talisker not for me though, too peaty. The more mature sophisticated Lancastrian palate tends to prefer speyside.

I'm intrigued about the halo of everyone's favourite Lib Dem being tarnished. As Malcolm says, beware people who are too nice. Mr Chambers has set himself up as a number of things publicly, and I have found him defensive and self serving on here. The Liberal elite trying to censor opinion? Well I bloody never.

Can't remember the last time anyone other than my mother bought me a bottle of whisky.

I'm trying to remember the context. I mean, I like to think I am, on the whole, reasonably nice! But if what you meant by 'nice' people are those who spend their lives virtue signalling on Facebook, yes, I would rather agree with you. Drives me insane.

One thing that makes me reach for the barf bucket are posts from parents and spouses making public declarations about how wonderful their husband/wife/son/daughter/spaniel is. I always think the divorce lawyers are probably just a call away!

Arlo you are right to concentrate on your own purpose and not be worried about competitors. I don’t interact with VV but am a member of many other groups that have taken over the support and balanced discussion that VV used to be about (Vet Mums, Vet positivity, etc). I have a feeling that only hard core moaners are left on VV.

Last night, after many years, I did the same. Already I feel like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders. For some years, I've had a slightly uneasy relationship with 'St Danny of Facebook'. I mean, he's a nice chap. But VV has taken a lot of debate away from here, which upsets me. And of course having joined VV, I would get hammered with notifications of the discussions every time I went to Facebook (which I have to for professional reasons more than personal ones), which was soul destroying. And although it is probably sour grapes (!) (and nice as he his), I find the facebook adulation of St Danny a bit finger-down-throat.

The final straw was to find myself being censored on VV for trying to share some good clinical opinion which had been published here. I don't know if it is true or not, but apparently some people objected to my being in VV because I am 'not a vet'. I find that rather sad ... that VV excludes people who have been part of the veterinary community for decades on the basis that they are 'not a vet'.

I think there are lots of people who are 'not vets' and 'not nurses' who have a great deal to contribute, and I wouldn't dream of excluding them.

Anyway, as I say, I feel unburdened this morning. I've always preferred to worry less what competitors are doing and focus on what I'm doing. VV was an unnecessary distraction from the task ahead of me: which is to get the message out that VetSurgeon is THE place for quality clinical discussion.

Well, I think all online communities have their ups and downs. I know quite a few people would say it got a bit nasty here in the past. But hopefully if I succeed in my ambition of making this very much the equivalent of a broadsheet, compared to Facebook being your super soaraway Sun, things will remain a bit more high brow over here. Whether I will pull that off is another question altogether, of course! But we are on the way. I think the Expert Help Forums work well ... just need a few tweaks and to get more people posting questions. And sharing the wisdom. Now I think it, tempted to change the share button to say exactly that.

That reads much better than the previous iteration where the bit under the title was giving the impression that couldn't give advice (so not friendly and welcoming) and then something about somebody's book that is likely irrelevant to most people. This is my impression from memory of seeing it over a week ago. I will try again with when the updated version is out and Vet Mums tend to have a kinder response than VV which has turned vitriolic!

The wild and crazy headline is whatever the thread is titled, and I appreciate that relies on people writing good headlines (and many won't), but at least the call to action (read more etc) is a lot better than what is there now.

Reminds me of the time my Austrian colleague (who pronounces his “b”s like “p”s) got himself into a bit hot water with a salt of the earth English pet owner whose young son had accidentally injured the pet by dropping some sort of heavy object on it.

My colleague, who was trying to piece together the sequence of events, innocently asked if the pet owner’s son had been having fun playing with his brick just prior to the incident. It was after several rounds of “you wot” from the pet owner, followed by my colleague (who now was thinking the pet owner was a little hard of hearing) repeating his enquiry, each time a little louder and a little more slowly: “was your son having fun playing with his brick?”, that things started to get a little heated.

I realise you’re joking, but still want to stamp on the very suggestion that anyone thinks this is the case. The whole point of the expert forums is to focus limited time on the question at hand, and make sure the experts do not find themselves being drawn into circular arguments etc. I would also say that it is you plebs in the normal forums who get to put questions to the experts, which rather destroys the idea that anyone thinks they are too good to engage with plebs.

Glad you've added the feature as I wanted to moan about the pulse ox recommendation at the time and had no way to do so.

I understand that the 'experts' time is valuable, but not sure I like the suggestion that they are too good to engage with us plebs in the normal forums.

(I am sympathetic when certain members get into circular arguments time after time)

Hi Arlo, Nothing to do with this thread (though I will always take a bottle of Champagne) but I think there might be an issue with the "Edit" function.

When I spell stuff wrong and then go back to correct it, I hit 'More' then 'Edit' but just get a new blank panel and not the text that needs editing.
