Let's see what our leaders come up with. Would make mind matters and all the other diversionary activity the college is involved in seem somewhat hollow if all they did was give people another month to pay. Reduce it to 1p if needs be. Stand up and show some support for the profession beyond words.

I've already paid my RCVS fees. If they were to be waived, guess I'm in for a refund

I wondered about this. The requirement to pay is in statute. But not a requirement on the college to chase for that fee. Actually, reading the VSA the fee is set by council, so it could be reduced, but not waived.

An easy compromise could be to waive the punitive didn't-pay-my-fees-in-time charges for 2020 and publicise this?

KMurphyI cancelled my RCVS direct debit on 17th March and got an automatic email from RCVS confirming I had cancelled it (I cancelled quite a few automatic payments, prefering to give my self control what I paid manually for the next month). This would suggest to me that the direct debit set-up was live and would have worked had I not cancelled it?

You may want to double-check this. They cancelled them all last year and you should be using the online payment portal this year.

I agree it\s not unexpected, but then I didn't expect to have spent the last two weeks on SSP only as my daughter had a cough for 3 days, and then I didn't expect at the beginning of this month to be facing an uncertain period of time off work having been furloughed so a reasonable sudden drop in income, and we still don't know if my husband will be receiving full pay for the next few months. We have gone from having a reasonable income to suddenly having to work out to the penny how to pay the bills for the next few months. Not having to pay out over £300 next week will go a long way to easing my anxiety at the moment, as i am sure it will for others of us in the profession not currently on our normal incomes.

If you look on Facebook they are going to be inundated with vets dobbing in each other for giving a 2nd vacc or seeing something they don't consider a dire emergency..............

What do you think the good people of RCVS are doing in this climate? There'll be no major council issues. No major DC cases.

As a gift to the trustworthy profession many many many who are facing economic hardship for months, just waive them. So easy. Waiving means more will pay in the future. If they don't even more will leave. 300 or whatever it is is a big chunk for those who haven't sold out recently. Think on. Waiving will increase retention in the future. The admin costs are minimal!

Direct Debit old fruit. I'm happy to pay it each year and will be sad when I no longer pay it.

I'm not in favour of deferred or reduced fees as I forsee problems with administration.

If it's not a tangent..... as for CPD, what's to review? Just state that there will be no requirement for CPD this year.

Just pay the fees already. IT's laid down in statute, It's not an unexpected payment and as it is due in a week, it's not exactly a surprise. Changing the fee payment will, I imagine require an awful lot of checking and rehecking and cost the college a load of cash. Plus an awful lot of whinging when the next payment is due.

Every vet and vet nurse should have received my message in their email in box last night. The council elections are an important process which is already underway. I copy this from the message:

“CPD and fees

We also understand that this period of unprecedented change is having a significant impact on the professions in other areas. We are reviewing two areas that we know are at the forefront of many people’s minds – CPD and fees.

We recognise that in the current context it may be difficult for veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses to complete the required CPD hours. We also understand that veterinary surgeons may have concerns regarding retention fees that are currently due. We are reviewing both of these issues and in the case of fees, considering the appropriate legislative position. We will update you on the outcomes of the reviews as soon as possible.”
