However, I can only get thereby flying so I’m concerned about getting it through security and the X-ray machines. Couldn't you post it up in advance and send it back to yourself?

Edit - Have you contacted them and asked how important bringing the badge is? I've been in similar situations where I went to a lot of trouble to fulfil requirements and no one else bothered and nothing was said. At the end of the day you are the customer and paying to be there. If their RPA deems badges needed for the course they should really provide them. As far as I knew they are specific to the risk assessment in the particular practice. Are you supposed to take the control one measuring background radiation with you!?

RE: Has anyone taken a dosimeter on a flight?

It’s the uncertainty that’s so frustrating. Logically, I could have it in my hand luggage, show it to the security staff and ask that it isn’t put through the X-ray machine. However, if they refuse I’m completely stuck.

RE: Has anyone taken a dosimeter on a flight?

I suspect if you try to go through security with a lead lined bag these days it may stimulate more interest in examining/xraying it’s contents?

RE: Has anyone taken a dosimeter on a flight?

The instadose meters look as though they would be quite useful in this situation.
I thought that what Gillian replied did make sense, but I have had to chuck away so much stuff at security in the past that i’d be worried it wouldn’t be that simple. Having googled “photographic film and airport security” , it really doesn’t look worth the risk.

RE: Has anyone taken a dosimeter on a flight?

Also as you’re going on a flight you are closer to cosmic rays and therefore exposed to more radiation.
You could look at something like Instadose (JAK supply to vets), or you could post your badge (since that's probably how they get back to be read normally)?
