Not entirely clear yet how things will play out today / tomorrow, but I am hoping we are deploying the upgrade. It is a hugely complex thing. We're not just upgrading the site, but the whole shooting match - shiny new, more powerful server, new operating system, new everything. It seems likely the sites will go down for a day at least, maybe two as we get everything set up. And when it all comes back, there will inevitably be little things still to iron out, even a couple of big things. We shall see.

Fingers crossed ...

Here's a teaser, to give you a bit of a sense of what the new site looks like.

This is the new home page.

As with previous upgrades, an evolution rather than a revolution, design-wise.

Objective has been to freshen it up, make it look more contemporary, and simplify ... so as to focus on the most important things.

Functionally, I'm really excited about how much better it will be on mobile, and the expert forum functionality ...

If our system sends three emails in a row which are bounced, it removes the name from the list. Yours was removed last year. That surprised me, because I thought we fixed it this year! Anyway, I have put you back on the distribution list, and we'll see what happens when the next newsletter goes out at the start of next year.

Meanwhile, the state of play is that it is now a MAD, MAD rush to the finish line for the site upgrade.

It had been planned for mid year. But various things have conspired against us, and in fact the developers would like me to delay beyond Christmas. But I've decided I would rather launch new platform and accept that there will be some glitches to iron out, than delay any further.

I am now testing like a dervish and trying to make sure that the glitches are kept to a minimum.

I just looked at it again, and our system sent three emails to your account, which all bounced back, so it stopped sending. I have moved you out of the bounced emails and it will try again.

(Oh ... and I see that was some time ago, but I thought we reset it???!!)

It is not going into spam and I put the address of the sender into the contacts folder so it should be accepted fine. With the number of other newletters I receive without issue, I still believe it is your end! I can give you a different email address to use but this would mean completely re-registering I understand?

I don't know!

(No seriously, I am not sure what, if anything has changed about search results or the way it operates. I did mean to change it to default to most recent, rather than most relevant first, because I find that usually produces a better result).

I though we looked at your account, re newsletter and found we were sending and you weren't getting it, which suggests it is wrongly going to spam, or some other folder. But I can look again at that.

Facebook is so swamped with advertising that it is horrendous to use. Depressing how many seem to be using it. It is much more civilised here!

Any plans to improve the search function? Also, I still don't receive the emailed VetSurgeon newsletter and have been unable to discover why.

What we are doing is taking the qualification date and university added to your profile and displaying it adjacent to your name in your forum posts.

Here's an example showing my own, somewhat inflated credentials!

I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to complete this basic info prior to posting in any forums. It will give a much more professional feel. It will connect people who were at uni at the same or similar time. It puts everyone's posts in a better context.

However, anyone who posts replies in the Expert Help forums (ie Expert GPs, Referral Practitioners and Academia) will be required to display this information, or have their right to reply removed. Our USP here is total transparency over the source of the opinion / advice offered.

So with the post-nominals/experience thing etc. Will GP experts invited need to put them in their signature, or have a small bio with a picture like the one you posted the other week?
