I have taken the step to leave practice and have upcoming interviews in industry with veterinary pharma companies. It's actually not difficult to stand out amongst the crowd. Being a good practitioner and a good industry vet involve quite different skill-sets. Interviewers of course all looking for different things, but generally the person is more important than what they've swotted up on prior to the interview. Are they friendly, engaged, motivated, interested. Do know what the role is about - speak to other people doing it. Know why you want to do the role - you'd be amazed at the number of vets who tell you all about why they don't want to work in practice rather than why they want to do the role they're applying for. Obviously know the company's products and how they compare to competitor products. Have a look how the company are currently marketing products - don't criticise, the originator of that campaign could be sat in front of you - but have thoughts on what they are doing. Have a think about how you could help improve the sales of those products - are they missing a trick on not telling people that they have the only NSAID that does xyz? Oh, and don't turn up straight off the yard covered in SH1T - fortunately I did only see that happen once :)

If you want to PM me, no problem.

The Vet Times has the weekly VMD update of changes in SPCs and also availability of drugs. That may come in handy as a discussion point.

It may be more about your ability to communicate and network rather than knowledge of pharma at the time of the interview that they are looking for - you'll be taught about all the meds when you get the job.
