Did you provide me with an old escort Anthony? It's a long time ago so I can't remember the make of the car. I'm pretty certain you had something much more sporty though back in your garage. The main difference with mechanical faults occurring between cars and small aircraft is that the consequences are often more serious when you're a few hundred feet off the ground.

Here is a much later 'Hoskins' that was definitely late on the roundout - pranged on delivery, no serious injuries - not my picture credit to Alistair Grant

Sitting up the front alongside the pilot who was carrying out his pre-flight checks when it became obvious that he didn't have full movement of the control yoke - so we returned post haste to the hangar. Cause of problem - heating pipe wrapped around the yoke behind the dashboard. Very pleased this was discovered before we had become air borne.

If you really want to know anything about planes, airlines or accidents just find "pprune".

They spend a lot of time correcting ridiculous newspaper rantings eg the footballer disaster was probably related to CO in the cabin albeit not only.

CO detectors aren't mandatory in planes and cockpit heaters get their heat from the exhaust, usually not directly...

One of the budget practices does a full vaccination all the time. Presumably saves time looking at the history!

We consider lepto to be a core vaccine and as such do vaccinate yearly. Live vaccines every three but I would happily do it at 4 or 5 years if I was sure I would not get sued for not following data sheet recommendations.

Skoosh was the spray that was supposed to clog the spiracles and suffocate the life stages without 'chemicals'. Bloody useless IMO.

Bob Martin certainly used to... I'm sure their cat spot on used to be essential oils (I feel like lavender was involved?) to gently repel the fleas with their perfume. Having a quick look at their website they seem to all be fipronil based now.

The vaccination article was like anti-vac bingo:

- Willful misunderstanding of the difference between WSAVA guidelines and more local recommendations (ie lepto)

- Perpetuating the idea that vets are giving core vaccs annually (is anyone? I've never met anyone who is)

- Conveniently ignoring the WSAVA advice for cats, which is for annual revaccination unless they are indoor only and never go to a cattery

- Vague assertions that "over-vaccinating" causes harm

etc etc

I had a lady like that come in once to buy a flea spray for her house. But insisted that "I do NOT want an insectide", as they are bad, OK? The problem is, I explained, that fleas are insects and generally we want to kill them. As far as I know no-one makes a spray that hurts their feelings and makes them want to leave...

[/quote] I think I've mentioned this on this forum before - we don't have cat or dog fleas here in the Falkland Islands. If we see a dog or cat down here with an itchy skin we can immediately rule out it being caused by fleas. Some of our native wildlife species have fleas eg penguins and they can give you a nasty bite around your sock line and occasionally find their way on to a dog which has been exercising near a penguin colony but otherwise not a flea in sight. We even got rid of all the external parasites on sheep until a mite species (the itch mite) was re-introduced with a live import from Australia and that is now widespread.
