The 2 agencies that I occasionally deal with specify that if you return to a practice within 6 months of the first introduction then they collect a fee from the practice. They ask that both the practice and the locum let them know. Part of the agreed T&C's and I always do.

they used to get really pissy about you arranging stuff with clinics after they'd "introduced you" - but it was always in both your and the clinic's interest to cast them off - I know many locums felt little remorse about this at the time because the locum agents used to fill their books with contacts then split off from the parent company and go and set up their own operation. For a time these companies were multiplying exponentially and it was hard to keep track of which agent worked where when they emailed you about roles.

Most are 6 months, though I have seen 12. To me it seems entirely reasonable to have something but not open ended. I would ask them directly if insure

Looks open ended to me! Are you a BVA member? If so , free legal advice. I'm not sure if the agency can sue for loss of earnings, but I'd get proper advice. If, of course, you no longer use the agency, or have never used them, then I'd say you owe nothing.

The only mention of it is in the Candidate responsibilities on the booking form.

Please note the following expected Candidate responsibilities.

To advise the agency of any extensions/future locum bookings/ permanent contracts.

So even after a year would the agency expect to be contacted?

What have they stated in their T&C to you? (and the practice). If nothing, then nothing.
