That reminds me of my mountain leadership training I did many years ago. We were not allowed to use any gadgets, GPS units, smart watches or electronic devices of any kind for navigation whatsoever. Map and compass, landmarks and ground features only.

I've got a vision of you running in to something because you were so focused on your camera and what was going on behind you, rather than looking where you were going

I, like malcolm, have a handlebar mounted mirror which must be a least 20 years old (And has had 3 new glasses and 4 new frames ), shows no sign of wear, has never failed, and I have never had to put a battery in it.

On a serious note, I think a mirror (or a camera) is more essential than ever before, as modern cars particularly electric ones. are so quiet I often don't hear them.

Laughed out loud. Eh lad, we have an outside toilet and use sheets of newspaper. Costs nought.

Joking aside - this thing has a much wider, unobstructed field of vision than a mirror. Not saying that makes it worth it, but that's why I like it!

I'm a member of the Royal Mells Yacht and Cycling Club. Sold the yacht, but still ride every weekend, usually for three hours to a more distant pub and back!

I find it quite useful when cycling alongside someone, so I can see cars coming up behind and pull over and let them pass. Also nice to be able to see how far behind friends are.

Clive Ansell In my daughter's case, she has a Ford Focus with no satnav and only a CD player (but no CDs) and FM radio. She has a mobile phone. One of these: puts apple music and satnav and telephone on an interface that is bigger, easier to see, and therefore easier to assimilate info from and will logically lead to less distraction than fiddling with a phone mounted to the windscreen.

If you have a satnav already, and you have no need of apple music (or apps like wave which play radio over the internet, rather than FM), then it would have little use for you.

But young people who want music and satnav, I would rather they have it on a big, simple (voice controlled) screen that should keep distraction to a minimum.

I thinks it comes under the heading of yet another pointless gadget. As far as I can see, all of the features available are on my samsung android phone. I'm sure it is well made and of good quality as you say, but I just cannot see the need for it.

My 14 year old Audi A3 has no satnav, and just an FM radio and CD player, which is fine and all that I need. I have a plug in garmin satnav which is sometimes useful. I could buy a dashboard mount, but don't need it. I don't have a hands free phone, if i need to make or take a call, I pull over and stop, or will call back later.

In any event, and judging by the content of your IAM link, should folk be pratting around with electronic devices when they should be focusing on the road?

Thought I'd share this latest gadget review here in case any of you have a young driver in the family - because with young driver insurance premiums approaching £2bn per annum, you won't be able to afford a car with a decent voice-controlled satnav / music system, which they should have because they'll be less likely to be distracted (than tapping a phone*) and wrap themselves round a tree.

What, you mean unless enough has been added whilst you're cooking it. That's where the pepper cannon really comes into its own. It delivers a quite extraordinary amount of pepper, so when you're making mashed potato for eight, it takes 8 cranks rather than eighty!

My wife's mashed potato is absolutely chuffin' delicious, She puts no pepper in it (I have just asked her to confirm this) and very little salt. No, you can't have the recipe.

I think perhaps they can. Of course sodium chloride is sodium chloride but I believe it's all the other bits and bobs in there that make the difference? I suppose at some point someone has done a taste test comparing. Perhaps I am a marketer's dream for using Maldon, but not enough of one to spend £400 on salt and pepper grinders :P

Well it certainly looks nicer.

(though as I said in the film, I am not sure whether anyone could tell the difference between a chicken casserole flavoured with Himalayan Pink, Maldon Sea Salt or Asda's finest).

Latest effort is a review of what is probably the ultimate salt grinder. Called the Salt Cannon, it's the brother of the Pepper Cannon which I reviewed a while back. It's a very nice thing, but expensive for what it is, whereas the Pepper Cannon is worth every penny.

And I got a tattoo.

We have had a bug-a-salt for a while (my husband saw them advertised on social media and ordered one) and we find it great! We are on a farm and near a river so have a lot of flies in the summer, and this is the most effective fly control measure we’ve found. The flies are killed instantly, and my husband finds it great fun too!
