no - I work in Canada where the usual story is breeders pick up medical equipment and drugs in the US (in some states you can literally go to the local agri store and buy boxes of antibiotics, microchips, vaccines - whatever you want) and bring it over the border and do this stuff on the sly. this sort of thing falls under the SPCA, which is a government agency here - we report everything like this and they take it over and sort it out including court action where appropriate. they have a lot of legal teeth and are really efficient at it - it's just sad that this sort of thing still happens. very helpful to have the middle man to intervene in these sorts of things

Stephanie Corkin at the RCVS has been dealing with our situation. Might be worthwhile copying anything to her. It seems this is becoming a widespread issue.

I suspect the equipment sale is the prime motivation in this breaching of the Veterinary Surgeons Act.

Samer problem here , we have to centres in Lytham and Freckleton, near preston, both taking progesterone bloods running them in house and telling people to mate them. Advising breeding season after season. I've spoken to RCVS about this , they have advised speaking to trading standards and they will assist them in investigating.

The training offered by the place doing the fertility 'training' includes accredited microchipping courses, with certificate. They last two hours!

Two hours and they can legally be let loose on the unsuspecting general public.

Very thorough response by the RCVS confirming and clarifying what we already know.

They will be contacting the person involved directly to make it very clear what is allowed and what is not.

It has also been suggested that Trading Standards and Advertising Standards are appropriate ports of call next.

Clearly the RCVS are interested in this sort of situation and are willing to act so others finding these fantasist 'pseudovets' should bring them to the attention of the College.

Will this individual listen and start using the shed for her lawnmower is anyone's guess!

I'm curious as well. Loads of clinics like this all over the uk and most of them are charlatans. Their spelling is atrocious lol.

The illegal things they do: blood sampling and progesterone in house, transcervical inseminations (or at least they claim they do), health checks, etc

One of them had a website called veterinary laboratory.

Others make a bit of money, employ a foreign vet and start doing elective caesarians for 450 quid.

Smartchip are actually smart. They sell those courses to all sorts of ignorants and fill their pockets. Happy days!

LANTRA accredited microchipping course in 3 hours! I assume this is the accrediting but LANTRA should be having a closer look at this! How much training and experience can be gleaned in this time. How much practice do they actually get before being let loose on the unsuspecting public?

I’ve just had a look whilst having my lunch and fallen down the worm hole by seeing her training certificate provider. I can’t see what qualifications they have either and the “dermtital skin scraping“ seems to have come from there. They also offer epidydymal semen collection?

I am pretty much as concerned about the so called training centre. The website shows a fully equipped high tech lab. This is nicked from another website.

Are we dealing with a nationwide bunch of fantasists pretending to be vets? 'Our' centre is a bog standard garden shed in the back garden. I wonder if they have planning permission??

Contrary to myth, RCVS are sympathetic to such reports and can and will help, but legally Trading Standards are the body to take it up.

She's just a charlatan. Hopefully my replies and her weak responses will make her pause before making false claims next time? Somebody is always watching....

Unfortunately, members of the public will always be taken in by these folk. To be honest, I have limited sympathy. If you want a qualified person to diagnose your pets disease, you know you need to see a vet. Anybody who chooses to spend their money elsewhere is asking to be taken advantage of!

Or you could tell RCVS and let them report it to the appropriate authorities?
