Thank you! Life would certainly have been a lot easier if it had been a little more interested in staying alive, and I don't recommend operating with an extra five people in the room (2 cameramen, the producer, Ann who runs the rescue and Brian May), at least the sound man stayed out!

Well he does have a PhD in astrophysics or summat similar....

I thought Thomas came over really well - must have been pretty stressful all round - especially with the hog wanting to die under GA....

(Not so sure about those 12 y.o. girls dishing out antibiotics elsewhere).

A few reasons for not bringing it up, at that point he was the client, I was the vet and I had a particular job to do. I was wearing a microphone for most of the time and don't feel that I have enough knowledge to put my point across as well as I would have wanted to, and while it might have made good television I may not have been persuasive enough and might have said something incorrect or that could be interpreted in a way other than that which I wanted. Also by the time we finished I had five minutes to grab some lunch before starting afternoon consultations!

This effect has been replicated in the badger control areas in effect at the moment, where hedgehogs are making a comeback when badgers are removed. As I've said before it was my favourite question in TB investigations (It wasn't on the official form, but I added it) In nearly every case of large TB outbreaks farmers replied they had rarely seen a hedgehog.

I feel sometimes celebrities should be put on the spot but the editor would have removed it. I have no poor feelings for Brian May, he strikes me as someone trying to get to grips with badgers and British wildlife, but like Brexit, the discussion is prone to polarisation.

Wondered why I recognised the vet!

The programme however, what a load of twee rubbish. I must have misread the preview as I thought it was going to be looking at why they've declined. As my wife commented, "Don't be silly dear, it's on Channel 5"

Brian May was a pleasure to work with, very relaxed, just let us get on with what we needed to do and genuinely cares about the animals, and when some of the staff were a bit unsure about the cameras coming in to the operating theatre and the film crew were gently persuading them it would all be okay he was the one who said that it was our decision and that if we didn't want them coming in that was fine.

I do have some significant reservations about his views on badgers, but decided it probably wasn't the appropriate time to bring them up.
