Tangent of: What stresses you out?

Today I removed a foreign body from a staffy stomach, diagnosed a cruciate and planned a TPLO, flush dogs ears under GA and done 3 extractions on a 16yo dog with CKD and g2 murmur.
Great team effort, students

RE: What DOESN'T stress you out?

I like being able to deal things that would have stressed me as a new grad. A few weeks ago I dropped the pedicle on a bitch spay and just thought, "Hey ho, that hasn't happened for years", extended the incision, retrieved the pedicle, ligated it and finished the spay. I told the nurse recovering it what had happened then went for lunch (on time, as the spay hadn't taken me much longer than planned) and home that night without once being struck with the fear that my ligature wasn't secure enough, because I knew it was. As a new grad I would have coped (and did, as I did drop one as a fairly new grad) but it would have taken longer, my heart rate would have been much higher and I would have been a bit worried about it till the next morning.

RE: What DOESN'T stress you out?
Why's it called combat training?
A bit of a break on the plane (except the queue for the loo) before the stress of landing, being glared at by passport control then the wait for luggage on the carrousel also more than a bit stressy.

I was off today so had a nice day dog walking and lunching with my (grown up) daughter. But the week has been mixed. A 2am GDV on Wednesday, meant very little sleep, but the dog is still with us, and doing fine so far. And the team took over on Wednesday morning so I could have a couple of hours of much needed sleep.

The night before our recent graduate had a call out late at night to an 8 year old Dobermann with acute respiratory distress, in heart failure with DCM. I arrived to help her, and with the owner, decided to let the dog go, she was struggling to breathe. And yesterday, a spaniel with IMTP who went downhill suddenly, and again the owners had decided she had had enough.
