Generally racehorses are insured for mortality and public liability. There may be some insured for vets fees, but not any I have personally come across. I'd say if you're paying the trainer a 5 figure sum per year to train it, then you can probably afford vets fees.

It was an interesting article featuring many of the usual pitfalls and the 'usual suspects' you know the ones, the friendly one and the one beginning with E. The pitfalls were quibbling over dates of birth, pre-exising conditions, lameness in one leg precluding disease in another

The high premiums were those with chronic conditions. The £4000 premium was for a dog that had had a mass removed, eye removed, mince pie incident, hip dysplasia.

I thought it was reasonably balanced and I could recognise al the horror stories

Bloody hell! I cancelled my horse insurance when it got to £140/month due to the high risk level of my sport! Have now gone with a very basic policy which cover specific things like colic surgery, fractures, wounds and joint/tendon infections which costs me only £27/month!

Yup, have a client with a 19 year old cat quoted £400/month for renewal. They cancelled.
