Hi George, if you mean me (nae hair) then it’s very decent of you indeed to say that. I would love to be elected for one more term, and if successful, will be RCVS President on 12th July. I am thoroughly enjoying my time on Council. You’ve seen my picture collage which shows just a tiny sample of the wonderful veterinary surgeons, RVNs, students and other folk I’ve met while carrying out my RCVS duties. Communication is incredibly important and I really value meeting people at events such as Regional Question Times, Vet/RVN/Student conferences, consultation groups, vet schools and in their practices.

The voting forms will be arriving shortly and as you know council has changed it's structure such that there are now six lay members and only 13 elected vets. The number of vets in practice on the list is small, which is s problem given that most of the RCVS' impact is on the practising vet. It is notable that the lay people are essentially professional regualtors so have little if any understanding of the profession.
I feel it's vital that with the proposals regarding remote prescribing, having first opinion practice vets on council is crucial.
I'll be saving my votes for them

Iain makes a very good point. I can actually foresee a time when there are no currently-practising, first-opinion vets sitting on Council, which is a scary thought. While we obviously need a mix of skills and attitudes, the presence of some members with knowledge of how things currently are at the coal-face is essential, because these are the vets we are setting standards for and regulating.
