We are interviewing for a second vet and I feel a bit of a pratt telling people I want a kind vet above all!

Had a quick perusal of candidates and they look quite a good lot. Probably no need to vote for the antipodean bone feeder.

Hi George, if you mean me (nae hair) then it’s very decent of you indeed to say that. I would love to be elected for one more term, and if successful, will be RCVS President on 12th July. I am thoroughly enjoying my time on Council. You’ve seen my picture collage which shows just a tiny sample of the wonderful veterinary surgeons, RVNs, students and other folk I’ve met while carrying out my RCVS duties. Communication is incredibly important and I really value meeting people at events such as Regional Question Times, Vet/RVN/Student conferences, consultation groups, vet schools and in their practices.

However, I would like to think you could stretch to using a second vote on me

I like to think I'm accessible. I'm also an aforementioned first-opinion vet, with a major interest in veterinary wellbeing and a reluctance to change the code definition of Under Care. Amongst many other things.

I don't have the right hairstyle though I'm afraid!

I think it would be a good idea for all council members to spend a day in a busy general practice - I am sure there are many who wouldn't mind hosting them for a day. If you are a regulator you need to understand the real world.

They're not

Iain makes a very good point. I can actually foresee a time when there are no currently-practising, first-opinion vets sitting on Council, which is a scary thought. While we obviously need a mix of skills and attitudes, the presence of some members with knowledge of how things currently are at the coal-face is essential, because these are the vets we are setting standards for and regulating.
