&lt;p&gt;A good starting place is to think about the welfare needs and work back from that. Provision of species appropriate:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Diet / space / enrichment / exercise / human interaction / animal interaction / routine preventative vet care / hygiene and biosecurity.&lt;/p&gt;
