There are a couple of routes available between certain branches and I take whichever route I feel is most likely to be the quickest (time is

RE: Mileage claims

Probably shouldn't be using your own car for that anyway would be the quick fire response unless its insured for commercial use . Our vets all drive lease cars ,the Directors have Business cards ,the others claim allowances, no one has ever had time to delve into the minutae like that, I certainly haven't and am not about to start. If you have several outlets though there is an ideal opportunity to use one as a Ltd Co and leave one as a Limited liability partnership . If you put the cars through the second one, no one gets stuffed for payment in kind tax on them.

RE: Mileage claims

A single too and from work is not usually claimable but additional journeys (on duty for example) would be.

Unless the difference is big why are they bothering to adjust for a few miles? Seems a bit petty.

As long as it can be justified to HMRC should there be an inspection then that should not cause problems. A longer route to miss traffic blackspots should be a perfectly good reason to claim a bit more.

If your contract states the times/payment for the journey then they are probably within their rights!

RE: Mileage claims

What does your contract say, and have your bosses told you what journey to take? As an employer it's much easier knowing the distances between branches and paying a standard fee, rather than your individual claims. Perhaps speak to them and agree a standard journey and distance.

Remember your commute from home is usually not claimable.
