It seems like every week a rep is in trying to demonstrate the benefits of their medications/equipment/insurance policies

RE: Chopping and changing

have just survived changing card payment machines - would not recommend that to anyone just wanting to get on with life.

still to see if any financial improvements that were promised (and also ditching the steam powered previous model may actually be able to connect to something)

Belong to Vetcel buying group - the reps and discounts their problem to sort thanks...

Not to mention the national shortage of preds but we can get all sorts of other 'use once a lifetime' medications. Seriously think the wholesalers have lost the plot - why has it become my problem to source a product in short supply?

RE: Chopping and changing

Flea and worming products = not interested! Likewise neutraceuticals. The only reason I see reps is if they have something new/ innovative. And to get the gossip from the ones that are good at that sort of thing!

There are a couple I find pushy and unbearable. With them, I like to question them to the nth degree about the science behind their product. They don't like that, which hopefully means they don't come back!

I very rarely change our protocols. I am another for listening politely (I usually see them while I'm operating, so I don't waste time!) and then ignoring!

RE: Chopping and changing
Listen politely to what the rep has to say, gaze politely at the big glossy brochure they show you, study politely the meaningless bar charts, say "oh, really?" politely when they tell you "the big practice over in *** has bought lots, they are even using it for (insert any disease) now", try politely not to let your eyes glaze over when they demonstrate that because of the discount structure you'll save millions a year, and tell them politely you'll think about it.
Or think carefully about whether you want to see the rep at all, just because they want to see you doesn't mean you have to see them! I see some reps, but only if I think I'm going to be interested, others get politely declined.

RE: Chopping and changing

If I was CVS I might try to knock 0.1% off my drugs bill.

My rules of thumb:

1) Is it better, easier for client etc?

2) Is it noticably cheaper (will the prsctice get a significant boost or will clients notice and react favourably)?

3) Is the disruption/hassle really worthwhile?

Usually means the answer is not to change but occasionally someone does a better deal. I never worry about the likes of meloxicam changes but that appears to be quite a stable market at the moment.
