What aperture did you use? Probably small given the long exposures during the the day? A small aperture will make sensor dirt more visible - related to how the depth of field is greater at small apertures. At low f-stops the sensor (and lens) dirt becomes more out of focus.

RE: Photography
My first stab at a waterfall. A bit unremarkable, really, I think because the context isn't especially interesting. I think your composition was much better than mine Thomas Johnson, but I took a series of shots at various shutter speeds and found 6 seconds and upwards got the blurred effect on the slower moving water.

This one was 25 seconds.

Interestingly, the longer the exposure, the more obvious the artefact (wiggly black line in the river) became. I'm not sure if that is something on the sensor, or on the filter.
Personally I think that you will find this black Jobbie to be on the last element of your lens - the one that is nearer the throat of the camera. Either way , be it there or on your sensitive bit, using a fine brush attached to a puffer should remove it. I seem to recall tat it is a big no-no to use aerosol blasts of air as they tend to have tiny droplets of oil in the 'spray'.

I'd suggest removing the lens and checking the sensor once you have popped the mirror up out of the way. And whole you're at it check the rear end of the lens and also the front glass too, and any UV/polarising filter you might have fixed to the front of it.

Most cameras these days have some sort of charge, or vibrating system to remove any dust from the sensor. The more expensive cameras have greater degrees of protection agains the environment built in, though down at the novice end of DSLR ranges it can be fairly rudimentary.

This could be a reason, depending upon your preference of subject matter, for investing in a good quality set of lenses that give you wide angle to telephoto in a singe barrel. Obviously a compromise optically, but the improvement in image quality in recent years has been immense. I've had a couple of Tamron Travel Zooms over time and before I invested in Sigma 2.8f fast lenses I was blissfully happy! Since moving up a notch I am more aware of the compromises.

Regarding waterfalls - I can't understand the compulsion to cause blur! It isn't necessarily what the eye beholds at all - though I suspect that there's the frisson of satisfaction from achieving something that is really obvious that YOU'VE engineered. I much prefer (personally) the crispness of each drioplet frozen in time!!

RE: Photography
A bit worried about that, as I only bought the camera a few weeks ago and have maybe taken the lens off once, so I wonder if it is a faulty sensor ...
Travel photography and food, with some weddings thrown in! http://www.bakerattlenroll.com/category/live-life/

RE: Photography
